Boyce Byerly, Ph.D.

Boyce Byerly, Ph.D., has more than 15 years of experience designing and managing pure and applied research projects with high technology firms in the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina including Persimmon IT, TAVVE, and Therapy Edge. Dr. Byerly joined the predecessor company of Capital Analytics, New Course Education, in 2001. It was at this time that he began the groundwork for the development of the methodology and the analytical tools that are the core intellectual assets of the firm.

Dr. Byerly has dedicated his professional career to the understanding and measurement of human learning and how computers can assist in these processes. He has published numerous works on knowledge representation, spatial cognition, expert systems, and computer-support cooperative work in the United States, Europe, and Africa. In addition to his publications and research, Dr. Byerly has taught psychology, statistics, and computer science at Duke University, computer science at Rutgers University and English at Oxford University.

He earned his Ph.D. from Duke University for interdisciplinary work in Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology. He earned a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers University, in addition to master's degrees in Psychology and Computer Science from Duke University. He completed his bachelor's degree from Duke University as well, graduating cum laude, double majoring in English and Computer Science.

Dr. Byerly is an active member of the International Society for Performance Improvement, the Information Architecture Society, the Association for Computing Machinery, the Triangle Technology Executive Council, and the Triangle XML Group, and serves as chair emeritus of the Triangle Human-Computer Interaction Society.
